Today, we have Tania Penn joining us in an interview!

The Interview:

Me: Hi, Ms. Tania Penn! Thank you for coming to my blog, and talking to us!

Tania Penn: Thank you so much for having me!! :)

Me: What, in your opinion, makes The Morning Star unique?

Tania Penn: I think, and hope it's unique in the sense that it's a different kind of fallen angel story. The big cheese, head honcho, VIP fallen angel, Lucifer, is a daddy. And he's not a winged, red scaled, horned serpent, but a man who is hopelessly in love with another archangel who is the mother of his child. Sure, he's still trying to recruit souls to overtake heaven because he's angry, but he is Lucifer! And Dawn and Venus are not your typical chip off the old fallen angel either. Well, Venus is, maybe a little! I wrote this in the sense that I wanted it to be a little more lighthearted and playful, with still a bit of the sinister undertones of the fallen angel world.

Me: Which character do you feel closer to, Dawn or Gabriel?

Tania Penn: In the real world, I would want to feel closer to Gabriel! Who wouldn't want a hot British guy with succulent lips? But then again, I'm old enough to be his mother....I think as authors, we tend to put a little bit of our personality into the protagonist, whether it be intentional or unintentional. There is definitely a little bit of me in Dawn's character, when I was in high school, certain things that she would say or do, her inner struggle between being good and bad.

Me: What made you want to right The Morning Star?

Tania Penn: I had this idea since 2005, wanting to write a story about Lucifer being a father. It was at first going to be a love story between Lucifer and Michaela, but didn't know why, or where to go from there. Then the idea of him and Michaela having a daughter came to mind, and it would be her love story with at first, Ramiel. Then I just sat on it for a while, dwelling on what would be the conflict. I thought about Romeo and Juliet - feuding families. Then decided that Ramiel needed to have a son, and that would be the love interest. Throw a wrench into that with who Ramiel is to Michaela. and Lucifer's bitterness toward him, and the story was born. And, now that I think about it - I would really love to write a novella going more into the love triangle between Lucifer, Michaela and Ramiel. Hmmm.....

Me: What do you enjoy about writing?

Tania Penn: I enjoy the creative process of thinking up an idea, having it come to fruition through my fingertips, and bonus, when someone reads something I've written that I've never met, who says they enjoyed it? That makes the process that much more enjoyable!

Me: Where are you from?

Tania Penn: I was born in Hollywood, California -- grew up in Los Angeles until I moved to Seattle, Washington, where I currently live, 4 years ago.

Me: What is your favorite thing to do, other than writing?

Tania Penn: I love anything outdoors, so does my husband and 6 year old son :) And we live in the perfect place for it - kayaking, camping, hiking, snowboarding, biking, traveling. Hopefully in the next few months, if I can find the time, I want to get Scuba certified and do a tandem paraglide off the top of Tiger Mountain here in Washington. I also love going to wine country for wine tasting ;)

Me: Do you have a TBR pile? How big is it/how many books are in it?

Tania Penn: Oh yes I do, and everyday I go between reading from that pile, (which keeps growing!), while trying to work on my next story. As of now in my goodreads bookshelf, there are 51 books I need to read!!!

Me: What are you currently reading?

Tania Penn: Right now, I am going between Willow Cross's book (I just frikkin love her name!) book 2 - "Inheritance" (The Dark Gifts) , and Shawnté Borris's "With Love." They are a couple of new author friends I met, and their work is amazing! I truly love meeting other indie authors and reading their stories :)
