Blog Tour Stop: A Matter of Fate by Heather Lyons- Review
A Matter of Fate
Author: Heather Lyons
Publisher: Cerulean Books
Release Date: August 30, 2012
Summary:
Chloe Lilywhite struggles with all the normal problems of a typical seventeen-year-old high school student. Only, Chloe isn't a normal teenage girl. She's a Magical, part of a secret race of beings who influence the universe. More importantly, she's a Creator, which means Fate mapped out her destiny long ago, from her college choice, to where she will live, to even her job. While her friends and relatives relish their future roles, Chloe resents the lack of say in her life, especially when she learns she's to be guarded against a vengeful group of beings bent on wiping out her kind. Their number one target? Chloe, of course.
That's nothing compared to the boy trouble she's gotten herself into. Because a guy she's literally dreamed of and loved her entire life, one she never knew truly existed, shows up in her math class, and with him comes a twin brother she finds herself inexplicably drawn to.
Chloe's once unyielding path now has a lot more choices than she ever thought possible.
About the Author:
Heather Lyons has been putting stories to paper since she was a little girl. Her first "published" book was a humorous retelling of The Princess and the Pauper. After detours in archaeology and teaching, she is now writing and living in Southern California with her husband and three sons. She likes cupcakes, baseball, hockey, reading, and collecting far too many handbags.
My Thoughts:
Well, this book's title kind of tells what it's about... A Matter of Fate.
Chloe is a part of a type of special people that interact and interfere/ influence the universe. These people have their lives completely mapped out for them, not leaving them any room to decide against it.
With this comes soulmates. And with Chloe's soulmate comes a twin that she didn't know of and that she likes sort of ...a lot.
I happen to be ones of those people who absolutely love reading stories about soul mates. BUT what I don't like is when someone comes on scene, interfering with the soulmate-love. That really kills me. It's actually what made me stop reading whole series. I mean, I like love triangles, but when you try to go against fate (in a book) and don't choose to fight to be with that person... the character gets what they deserve if both love interests leave them. That didn't happen in this, and I really disliked it.
Let me backtrack for a moment here. I did like the world and the characters that the author wrote about. It feel real and like a book that I would want to go in, if just for a moment. I even liked the book a lot. But the whole love triangle thing ruined some of it for me. Throughout the whole book, I was practically yelling at Chloe "YOU ARE SO STUPID! If I had a soulmate, I wouldn't do like you!" Chloe really just annoyed me -_-.
Anyway, the nasty love triangle knocked down the story a heart,so it only got four hearts.
I love it when people comment! :D
