Summary:

When destiny fails…

Singer-songwriter Lucy Moore thought her life was perfect. At just twenty-one, she’s already met her soul mate and together they’ve landed a recording contract. But when her father dies and the love of her life betrays her in more ways than one, she returns home to pick up the pieces. On the shores of Mendocino, California, Lucy has some decisions to make. Should she start a solo career? Or should she leave it all behind for some semblance of normalcy in the quiet town she grew up in? And what about Seth, the tortured artist who always seems to be there when she needs him?

Seth Keenan has demons of his own. Eighteen months ago, he was involved in a horrific accident that he never talks about. His career as an accomplished oil-paint artist has been abandoned, replaced by the buzz of his tattoo gun. And women—well, he never sticks around for longer than a few hours of pleasure… until he meets Lucy. After one evening of listening to her seductive voice, he’s pulled under. But what about the vow he made to never get close to anyone again?

In a world where everyone has one true soul mate, can these two find love in the arms of each other?

My Thoughts:

So this book is set in a world where everyone has one soul mate. The MC's (Lucy) soul mate, Caden, is a giant douche-wagon who cheats and all that stuff that's opposite to being a soul mate-type. Seth (the other MC)'s soul mate died years before and now he's a player. So, basically this book is about a girl who gets cheated on, then reforms a player (more or less).

First, gotta get out that there were typos a-plenty, but what I've been discovering is that a lot of ebooks have typos. Some of the typos aren't very noticeable, but when boots have feelings, I start to question the wording a bit.... "The four-inch feels on my thigh high boots wobble with each step..."

I did like that although this book was basically a reforming the player story, it had a little bit of a twist with the soul mates thing. But then, you gotta think, if there are soul mates, then why wold the soul mates cheat on their other half? Wouldn't they (presumably) be consumed with love for their other half at all times, because they are soul mates? Making Lucy's soul mate a douche canoe therefore makes no since in the scheme of the soul mates theory, because he shouldn't have wanted to cheat on her (right?). The author's version of soul mates wasn't really explained much, so I came in with my idea of soul mates.

I sort of like Lucy's character. She seemed like a smart girl who knew that even though they were soul mates, he would still cheat and her hurt [(emotionally) in the book]. But, I do think that in the beginning of their break up, she should've defiantly sung without him (though that's just what I would've done in her position). At least she didn't end up with him by the end of the book, right?

Seth's character... eh, he was a player, and owned up to it, but he wasn't really a player in his head, like most cliche player types in these stories. I wish he would've been a little different, had a little bit more dimension.

Them as a couple: eh. I felt like their relationship was a game of tug-or-war because it was all like "She's gonna go back to her soul mate/ex... or will she?" etc. I did like some aspects of them as a couple, as in that they seemed like they should've been soul mates rather than Lucy and Caden (I can't say much about Seth and his soul mate, E [who died], though).

All in all, this book received three hearts (almost docked to 2.5, though).
