Summary (Goodreads):
When a strange boy tumbles down a river embankment and lands at her feet, seventeen-year-old adrenaline junkie Deznee Cross snatches the opportunity to piss off her father by bringing the mysterious hottie with ice blue eyes home.
Except there’s something off with Kale. He wears her shoes in the shower, is overly fascinated with things like DVDs and vases, and acts like she’ll turn to dust if he touches her. It’s not until Dez’s father shows up, wielding a gun and knowing more about Kale than he should, that Dez realizes there’s more to this boy—and her father’s “law firm”—than she realized.
Kale has been a prisoner of Denazen Corporation—an organization devoted to collecting “special” kids known as Sixes and using them as weapons—his entire life. And, oh yeah, his touch? It kills. The two team up with a group of rogue Sixes hellbent on taking down Denazen before they’re caught and her father discovers the biggest secret of all. A secret Dez has spent her life keeping safe.
A secret Kale will kill to protect.
My Thoughts:
So, this story starts with Deznee (or Dez) at a party about to do a crazy stunt- skateboarding off the roof. She does it--makes it-- and leaves the party to get home before her father does. While she's walking through the woods, minding her own business, she comes across a guy who looks hunted. The first thing he asks for is- just guess it-- her shoes. She, of course gives them to him. She also helps him when some guys in leotards come chasing after him; she makes sure the guy is hidden.
She then decides to bring him home to tick off her father, but she soon comes to find out that Kale being there does more than just seriously tick off her father. She finds out that her father is behind a corporation that uses people like him--the Sixes-- for their own purposes.
When I first read the summary of this, I was like "Oh, awesome! It sounds kind of like Maximum Ride by James Patterson."
I was soon discouraged of this.
I really felt like the pace of this book was a lot too fast. It felt like she was a bit too understanding about all the stuff that was being shoved at her. It really didn't seem too realistic. But, I'm a camper, so I kept trying to get through it.
About half way through, some old flame of Dez's comes in (which is immediately awkward, since Dez and Kale have a little tension going). And then, you wanna know what happened?
It suddenly turned into Twilight. Just to clear it up, I'm not exactly a big fan of Twilight.
Dez and her ex were all kissy-face (after she'd gotten a little intense with Kale) and then she was all like "No. I have feelings for Kale." and Alex (the ex) is like, "I'll be waiting for you. Because you belong with me!"
How did you all like my improve? But seriously, it went almost exactly like that. And, you want to know what I did as soon as I finished that chapter? I sat the book down and started on a new one. I am not going to finish the rest of Touch, so there.
Yeah, don't be surprised at the rating it got.
I love it when people comment! :D
