What if you knew when someone was going to die?

For seventeen-year-old Ember, life is death. With a simple touch, she knows when someone will die. It’s her curse and the reason she secludes herself from the world. The only person who knows her secret is her best friend Raven.

Then she meets Asher Morgan. He’s gorgeous, mysterious, and is the only person Ember can't sense death from. So when he pushes into her life, she doesn't mind.

But when unexplained deaths start to haunt her town, Ember starts questioning why she can’t sense Asher's death and what he may be hiding.

 About the Author:

Jessica Sorensen lives with her husband and three kids in the snowy mountains of Wyoming, where she spends most of her time reading, writing, and hanging out with her family.

My Thoughts:

This starts out in Ember's past, when she was younger and her dad was still alive. She has an 'imaginary friend' who is hooded (and since he's imaginary, nobody else can see him). He has rules for her to follow or else he'd leave for example, she can't tell anyone that he is there. She makes the mistake talking aloud to the friend and her father hears her, and tells her to make the friend go away, which he does.

Skip nine years later, and we first discover her at a cemetery where two people are digging up a grave. She hides behind and angel gravestone and she has dropped her notebook. When the two guys hear something and go to investigate, they find her notebook, which her name is on 'Ember Rose Edwards'. She almost gets caught by some cops, so she runs away completely forgetting about her notebook. The next morning, her notebook is on her front porch with a mysterious poem to her in it... And this starts the happenings to Ember.

Did I forget to mention that Ember has the power (fortunate or unfortunate, however you see it) to see how people are going to die, just from touching them.

This book is just... Wow. It was different in that it was more... dark than any other books that I usually read. For example, if you like Edgar Allen Poe, with some romance thrown in, the n you'll more than likely like this book. I'm sorry (and don't go after me you guys), but I sort of don't like Poe, BUT I did like this book.

Okay, I didn't like her 'best friend' Raven AT ALL. She felt like a moocher who only had Ember as one of her friends because it made her seem/feel less depressing. She's one of those 'Toxic Friends' that you'll hear about who unwittingly insults you without a second thought. Her character made me want to wring her neck (not literally).

What is up with the love triangles these days? They drive me half crazy because you know who the main character will end up with, but you're routing (at least, for me) for the other person (and I am not talking about those juvenile 'teams' that people set up that makes everything horrible) who doesn't have a second chance. I actually didn't feel that way with Asher and Cameron in this. I didn't know who I wanted to win her heart in this.

So, cliffhanger.... Yeah. I've got a small problem with this book.... It left me with a CLIFFHANGER (definition of cliffhanger: An ending that leaves the audience in suspense).  Why do you have to do this to me, good authors of the world?? It absolutely kills me! I'm all wanting to read the next book when it finally comes out and either 1) my library doesn't have the book or 2) I have no money to afford the next book(s). *Sigh* But, oh well, maybe I'll suddenly come into a lot of money where I can afford all of the next parts in a series...

ANYWAY, I did love this book, so I gave it a perfect five hearts!
